Arlington Co. announces temporary traffic pattern changes on Williamsburg Blvd due to LPR Phase II construction:
"Due to construction of the Little Pimmit Run Flood Control Project between Williamsburg Boulevard and Little Falls Road, traffic patterns along Williamsburg Boulevard between George Mason Drive and North Buchanan Street will be shifted beginning on or about August 25. During the construction, which is expected to last through May of 2010, two-way traffic will be shifted to one side of the existing median. One lane of traffic on Williamsburg Boulevard will be maintained in each direction at all times during construction. It is expected that the new traffic pattern may have a minor impact upon traffic throughout the course of construction. Arlington County does not intend to implement any detours during the construction.
During construction, signs will be posted noting that vehicular traffic must share the road with bicycles. The lanes of traffic will be between 11’-14’ wide in each direction, which provides enough room to safely share the roadway, but not enough to mark dedicated bicycle lanes. The speed limit will be reduced to 15 mph in the work zone, and the work zone only stretches for about 300 feet, so bicycles will be able to safely pass through the zone with a little extra care.
If you have any questions, please contact Bonnie Parker, a community relations specialist for Arlington County’s Department of Environmental Services. Bonnie’s email address is email@example.com."
LPR Phase II involves replacement of the culvert under Williamsburg Blvd. plus upstream channel work. For more detail see the Community Projects page.
