Beginning in about a week, Arlington County will construct a wall and sidewalk along the west side of Old Dominion Drive between North George Mason Drive and 37th Street North.
Construction will last approximately five weeks. Any lane closures will take place only when needed and probably between 9:30am and 3pm, depending on VDOT instructions. Flaggers and cones will be staged throughout the construction phase. Normal days of construction will be Monday through Friday, however, work may also take place on some Saturdays,if needed.
Because Old Dominion Dr. is so narrow in this area, safety will be the County's number one priority during construction.
Notices have been mailed to the affected residents, and the County has met with residents along the route to outline the property impacts.

(Please also note that this George Mason/37th construction is separate from, although related to, the Phase 2 Old Dominion Dr. Pedestrian Improvement Project, which will extend sidewalks from about Glebe Rd. to Williamsburg Blvd. The latter (Phase 2) project is separately funded and unlikely to begin until early to mid 2013.)
